New Fall Workshops & Events

Patchwork has just posted my new class schedule for fall, which includes a few old favorites (modern trosseau and skirts that work) plus a new four-session Fall Dress workshop (pictured here).

I am also teaching two workshops in September in Santa Cruz, California: a Mendocino Sundress workshop at The Crafters Studio and a Skirts That Work session at Harts Fabric.

I have been shopping at Harts since I was in the 7th grade, when I purchases three yards of while poly satin for my Bride of Frankenstien halloween costume. If only I could have gotten my hair to stand straight up. I will be signing books and hanging out at Harts on Thursday September 3 from 4-6pm, and then when the shop closes the workshop will begin. Visit Harts website for more info and to register.

I am also extremely excited about being at The Crafters Studio in Santa Cruz, I haven't yet been but have been hearing about it from everyone on the left coast. They have an impressive class list, which includes everything from metal smithing to sewing to knitting and more. I will be there on Wednesday Spetember 9th from 4:30-6:30 signing books and meeting local stitchers and crafters, and then teaching from 6:30 to 9:30. The siging is open to the public, but space for the workshop is limited. You can get more info or sign up over here.

Is your new fall dress going to come out as a pattern for those of us not in the area? (Please say yes.)

i don't mean to sound like a fan-atic but i was seriously contemplating driving up to s.c for the day for the class, until i realized it was the day the boys start their first day of pre-school and that would be a little wrong of me, to miss it, you know? next time can you come to l.a.(or surrounding areas. malibu is really nice, as is la verne)....then i can get my book signed and bask in glowy heather ross vibes.

I also hope the pattern will be availble to purchase for those of us not in the NY area. I have been craving your "far and away" fabric, but haven't quite figured out what I want to do with it and this dress looks perfect!

This would be just the kick in the pants I need to try to sew up some clothes. But I don't live near any of these appearances. Sad. Have fun!

Oh, I love that dress! Hope to make to one of your NYC workshops one day... I loved hearing about Hart's! I went to UC Santa Cruz and all of my college sewing experiments were made with the help of Hart's fabric! That was 20 years ago, and I'm now thousands of miles away, so this was a sweet memory you just brought back! Thank you! Wish I had gotten to that studio sale... phew! it went fast!

I am so disappointed. I was planning on driving down to Santa Cruz from Grass Valley on Thursday to see you at Harts. But my little one crashed off the monkey bars and had to have surgery to rebuild her arm. And her first post-op is on Thursday. I know, selfish mama to even think of taking off to Santa Cruz to meet a fabric hero when my baby girl is hurting. But I am sad.

I hope you all have a wonderful time at Harts. I will be thinking of you all.
