Workshop news and updates below:
I am so pleased to offer a brand new workshop for 2012: Adobe Photoshop for Fabric Design. Read on for more details! Also: we are headed back to Blueberry Hill Inn after what will have been a two year haitus... we hope you will join us!
65% of workshop fee will be charged upon confirmation of registration for Weekend Sewing Workshops. Remaining balance will be due 60 days prior to workshop's start date. Our cancellation policy is the same for all workshops. If you need to cancel up to thirty days before a workshop, we try to fill your spot. If we can find a replacement, we refund you minus a $50 fee.
We ALL had so much fun this fall at our first set of Weekend Sewing Workshops in New York City, we can't wait to do it again! Last year we heard from a lot of folks who live in or near New York City or had places to stay and wanted to sign up for the workshop, but didn't need the hotel room. We decided that this year we would try something a little different, to accommodate those folks and give everyone else more options in terms of hotels. Workshop package doesn't include a hotel room but it still includes most meals, because those are so much fun to do as a group! We have brokered some great rates at several nearby hotels - one of them is even right next door - and can help you find another workshopper to share a room with if you come on your own. Or stay wherever you like!
You can use our registration form to reserve a spot. We invoice you for 65% of the fee once we've got you confirmed.
Here are the details and some FAQ!

New York City
Join Heather Ross and her crafty-genius friends for two + days of sewing, shopping, eating yummy food, and general crafty fun. Our hosts are The Sewing Studio, whose beautiful workspaces are located in the heart of the garment district.
About the Workshop
Workshops schedules are focussed on open sewing labs led by our guest teachers. We provide machines and basic tools, plus expert instruction and loads of encouragement. Bring your sewing projects, we’ll help you make them a success. Guest teacher led mini-workshops are offered as well, and are optional. We also host special presentations by designers and other industry professionals, and optional field trips to garment district favorites like Mood Fabrics, M & J Trim and Tinsel Trading, and the FIT bookstore and museum. Workshoppers can work on their own projects at their own pace with assistance from a pro or join a group-sew or other tutorial. Guest teachers to be announced, past teachers include Liesl Gibson, Denyse Schmidt, Jay Maccarroll, Gretchen Hirsch, Lotta Jansdotter, and Anna Maria Horner. Every level is welcome!
Weekend Sewing Workshop, NYC FAQ
What’s Included?
Two full days of Workshops, which include guest teacher instruction and optional guided field trips in the garment district. Sewing machine and basic tools and materials are also provided. Workshop fee also includes a Friday night “welcome” event, plus a a healthy breakfast and yummy lunch on Saturday and Sunday. We will also be organizing an optional group dinner for Saturday night. Workshop packages don’t include accommodations, but we have arranged some very convenient and well priced options for every budget (shared rooms start at $125 a night) including a great deal right next door to the sewing studio. Or stay wherever you like! The Sewing Studio is walking distance from Penn Station and near many subway lines.
Can I come on my own?
Absolutely! Most of our participants come on their own, and quickly make friends or do their own thing. The days are very jam packed and we do everything as a group, so you won’t have to worry about not knowing anyone when you arrive. Workshoppers have also brought friends, sisters, new in-laws, bridal parties, long lost high school home-ec buddies, mothers, daughters, and more. We have just one rule: everybody has to wear their name-tag until lunchtime on Saturday. And don’t worry, Heather makes cute name-tags.
What will I need to bring with me?
Usually we tell people to bring lots of fabric and ideas, plus some patterns. We love helping people tackle projects that seem slightly out of reach or helping to fit a dress pattern so that it’s just right. We always supply a big bolt of muslin for testing patterns, and we have lots of sharp scissors because we know you can’t bring your s on the plane. We also try to keep treats on hand. New York has more fabric than it knows what to do with, so for this workshop you really just need a toothbrush and comfy shoes. Actually, there is a drug store on every corner, so maybe just bring the shoes.
How do I sign up?
You can register here. We ask for a deposit of 65% of the workshop fee up front, with balance due 60 days prior to the workshop start date. We don’t invoice you or charge your card until we have confirmed your spot, but we do ask for a credit card number to reserve the spot.
What Happens if I need to Cancel?
If you have to cancel we will do our best to fill your spot and refund your fee. This usually works if we have lots of notice, but gets tougher as the start date nears and is almost impossible to arrange last minute.
If you think you want a spot, let us know pronto! Most workshops fill up quickly!

Heather Ross Prints Workshop / Photoshop for Fabric Design
NEW YORK CITY, NY
FALL 2012
SESSION 1 April 20, 21, 22 9:30-3:30
SESSION 2 April 26, 27, 28 9:30-3:30
In this workshop participants will learn how to create a repeating design based on their own illustrations. Heather will lead the class through each step in her process, from inspiration and planning through drawing with a stylus and tablet and building and testing repeats using a large format printer. Students will create a single finished design and a test print on paper.
This class will be taught on 27” iMacs with Adobe Creative Suite. Participants are asked to provide their own Drawing Tablet (these can be purchased on-site, prices for suggested models start at $69), sketching tools, and ideas for fabric their designs.
A very basic knowledge of Photoshop will be needed to take full advantage of this class. If you have never used Photoshop before we recommend that you take a Basic Photoshop class or download a trial version of Photoshop and use Adobe’s online tutorials on your own prior to class. You will need to be familiar with the selection and drawing tools (pencil, brush, and eraser) as well as the copy and paste commands.
New York City offers an endless array of inspiration for the fabric designer. Workshop will include a visit to a vintage fabric archive and several unique bookstores.
Workshop Fee $550
Fee does not inlcude accomodations, which must be booked by participants. We have, however, arranged for discounted rates to be available at some neighborhood hotels. Workshop takes place in Chelsea, near 23rd street at 6th Avenue.

Weekend Sewing Workshops at Blueberry Hill Inn, 2012
Monday, October 24, 2011 at 11:51AMWe were so sad to have had to skip a year and can't wait to get back to Blueberry Hill! We'll be packing up the sewing machines, elastic thread, teepee, and swimsuits in late June this year and hope you'll join us.

WEEKEND SEWING WORKSHOPS
BLUEBERRY HILL INN, GOSHEN, VERMONT
JUNE 29-JULY 1 and JULY 6-8
Blueberry Hill Inn sits in the middle of a protected forest, surrounded by lakes and hiking trails. Many of the photos from Weekend Sewing (including the tree on the cover) were taken at Blueberry Hill, which was also the site of this wedding...
We rent out the entire inn for our sewing weekends, and turn the barn into our sewing studio. Tony Clark, the Innkeeper and conservator, runs the place in the english tradition, with hearty breakfasts and candlelit dinners all made with ingredients from nearby farms and gardens.
Sewists bring along stacks of fabrics and ideas, patterns and questions, and with the help of guest teachers tackle whatever they like or join in on a group project. Sunday morning includes a group workshop led by Heather or a special guest teacher. All levels of sewing experience are welcome and encouraged.
For more information about traveling to the Inn, please visit the Blueberry HIll website:
